- Dirt hauling and spoil removal
Common jobs
Before we dig, we plan two things: where the dirt goes and where the water will drain.
- Basements, crawl spaces and footings for new builds and additions, dug to your plans and backfilled after the foundation is poured.
- Regrading around houses and garages where water pools against the foundation.
- Trenches for water, sewer, power and gas lines. Licensed trades make the connections.
- Sod stripping, cutting down hills, building berms and rough grading for landscapers.
Clay and frost in Calgary
A lot of the Calgary area sits on heavy clay. Clay holds water, swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries. That movement cracks foundations and heaves slabs. We slope the ground so water drains away, and we compact backfill in layers so it does not settle later.
Frost also goes deep here. Water lines and footings need to sit below the frost line, so we dig to the depth your plans or engineer call for.
Every dig starts with locates
Before we dig, we request free utility locates through Utility Safety Partners (Click Before You Dig). Hitting a gas or power line is dangerous and costly, so we never skip it.
How much does excavation cost in Calgary?
A typical 40 × 30 ft basement dug 8 ft deep, with the dirt hauled away, runs about $17,500–$22,000 + GST.
Every site is different. Soil, access and how far material has to travel all change the price. Try the cost estimator for your project, then we will confirm it with a free written quote.
