What we do
- Livestock and farm dugouts
- Stormwater and drainage ponds
- Recreation and landscape ponds
- Dugout cleanouts and expansions
- Clay seals and pond liners
- Spreading and shaping the dirt
Will it hold water?
Clay soil, common around Calgary, often seals well on its own. Sandy or gravelly spots do not. We check your soil before we dig and recommend a clay seal or liner only if you need one.
Depth and shape matter
Deeper dugouts, often 12 feet or more, lose less water to evaporation and keep water under the ice in winter. Gentle side slopes stop banks from caving in and are safer for people and animals.
A pond moves a lot of dirt. We spread it into berms or level ground on your property, or haul it away.
Picking the right spot
The best spot collects runoff naturally, sits away from septic fields and is not in an existing wetland. We walk your land with you and help pick the spot that will fill and stay full.
Check the rules first
Some ponds need approval under Alberta's Water Act, especially if they draw from a creek or change a wetland. Rules depend on where the water comes from. We will help you find out what applies before we dig.
How much does a dugout cost?
A 100 × 60 ft dugout dug 12 ft deep, with dirt spread on site, runs about $9,250–$12,000 + GST.
Every site is different. Soil, access and how far material has to travel all change the price. Try the cost estimator for your project, then we will confirm it with a free written quote.
Often booked together
Customers often add Excavation & Grading, Culvert Installation or Land Clearing to this job. We can quote and schedule them together.
